Heaven’s Light

So many times out there
I’ve watched a happy pair
Of lovers walking in the night.

They had a kind of glow around them
It almost looked like Heaven’s Light..

I knew I’d never know that warm and loving glow
Though I might wish with all my might

No face as hideous as my face
Was ever meant for Heaven’s Light

So many times in here
I’ve shed unhappy tears
Held pillows close to me so tight

I had this kind of wall around me
It always kept out Heaven’s Light.

I thought I’d never know a warm or loving glow
Though I might wish with all my might

No space as down and out as my place
Could ever harbor Heaven’s Light.

But suddenly an angel has smiled at me
And kissed my cheek without a trace of fright

He had this kind of glow around him
He held me close and wrapped me tight.

And as I ring these bells tonight
My cold, dark tower seems so bright.

I swear it must be Heaven’s Light.

True love was on my side

That I could spread my wings tonight

A life as beauteous as my life
Was always meant for Heaven’s Light.

And now I’ll always know that I am loved and dear
I’ll hold these lovers in the night

No face as wondrous as your face
Could e’er be shunned by Heaven’s Light!
