Welcome to Articulated Jargon.

My name is Mercedes Macías.  For over 10 years, I’ve been an advocate for community development and civic engagement.  Moving here at the age of 3, I’ve claimed Chico as my home.

I promote environmental stewardship volunteering as a Team Leader with the Stream Team: Citizen Water Monitoring Project and the City of Chico’s Bidwell Park Watch.  I’m honored to serve as a 3rd year Administrator on the Board of Directors for the Theatre on the Ridge in Paradise, which has thrived as a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit for over 40 years.

I’ve represented a multitude of diverse voices through volunteer work for The International Institute for Sexual & Gender DiversityFood Not Bombs, Gateway Science Museum, and served as a Lead Docent at the Chico Creek Nature Center, to name a few.

I’m committed to the ongoing creation of steady local jobs, supporting equality, and increasing Chico’s product exports.  I’ll work to draft mutually sufficient legislation for efficiently regulating the taxation and safe production of medical marijuana and hemp.

As an elected representative, I’ll continue to promote the long-term health of our community by preserving our parks and greenways; ensuring that all residents are able to access their basic needs.

Together we’ll facilitate interagency support networks and urge social rehabilitation for the mentally ill, houseless, foster youth, nonviolent drug-offenders, and disabled veterans.

I would rather do a few good things for a greater cause and spend the rest of my life accepting what little I have accomplished, than to spend my time doing a million things which lack any further substance or explanation.

My name is Mercedes and this is an online file-cabinet where I can store my various thoughts and writings.  Below, you will find a brief outline of some defining facts about me.  Within, you may find poetry, starter-ideas for essays, and a couple of reviews/insights inspired by other events or writers.

Please, enjoy.

Mercedes is a writer by both passion and trade, specializing in non-fiction reflexive exposition; narratives concerning the nature of nature, the acquisition and practice of culture, the contemplation of collective and individual morality, and the curiosity of structures within societies; free-verse poetry; and other philosophical quandaries.  She also likes to laugh.

    Hello,
My name is Jolene Moore and I am part of the planning committee for this year’s Chico States Great Debate. The purpose of the Chico Great Debate is to bring together members of the campus and community to engage in dialogue around a “hot topic” that has the potential to divide us. There will be students from both Chico State and Butte College participating. Throughout the day, students from various Communication Studies classes give presentations and conduct debates focused on a chosen topic. In the evening, at 6:30, there is a formal debate by the Chico State Debate Team members and stakeholder community members.
This year’s Great Debate will be held on October 21 and the topic is “Elections.” Students will be given the opportunity to present issues that deal with this topic. We have decided to include a forum for the candidates running for the Chico City Council and we would like to invite you to participate. Students will first read an introduction for each candidate. You will then be given an opportunity to speak for five-minutes stating your position, followed by student and community members asking predetermined questions that will be answered by candidates. The forum will begin at noon in the city plaza and conclude about two.
In addition to the forum, we would like to offer you a table at the student expo, also held in the city plaza. This is an opportunity for you, or a representative from your campaign, to talk to students and community member’s one on one. You are welcome to come for the whole event (10 am-5:30 pm) or stay for just an hour.
This event is a great opportunity for you to meet students and community members. We hope that you will be able to join us and cannot wait to hear from you.
    Thank You for Your Time,
    Jolene Moore

      Good morning, Rose Kelley.

Thank you for writing on my website.

I have checked my e-mail thoroughly and have turned up no e-mails from the League of Women Voters of Butte County or from “Rose Kelley.”

I would be most happy to attend a forum hosted by your excellent organization. I’ve very much appreciated comments by your members and organizers referring to conduct of our local City Council Members.

My e-mail address is mercedesamacias@gmail.com, for future correspondence.

Perhaps you had an incorrect e-mail address, as an incorrect address had been posted on the City’s Official Website for almost 5 days after the nomination closing period.

Please note the letter “A” in between my first and family name.

I look forward to a response on either this comment thread or through e-mail to inform me of a time and meeting place for this Forum Event.

I will most certainly be there.

      With esteem,

      — Mercedes Macías.

I have done a quick Google search and located the time and place for the League of Women Voters of Butter County’s October 20th Forum.

It looks like it will begin at 6:30P in the Marsh Jr. High Multi-Purpose Room on 2253 Humboldt Road.

Please confirm this and I will be there.
