Candidate’s Statement

Mercedes Macías
Community Volunteer

For over 10 years, I’ve been an advocate for community development and civic engagement.  Moving here at the age of 3, I’ve claimed Chico as my home.

I promote environmental stewardship volunteering as a Team Leader with the Stream Team: Citizen Water Monitoring Project and the City of Chico’s Bidwell Park Watch.  I’m honored to serve as a 3rd year Administrator on the Board of Directors for the Theatre on the Ridge in Paradise, which has thrived as a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit for over 40 years.

I’ve represented a multitude of diverse voices through volunteer work for The International Institute for Sexual & Gender DiversityFood Not Bombs, Gateway Science Museum, and served as a Lead Docent at the Chico Creek Nature Center, to name a few.

I’m committed to the ongoing creation of steady local jobs, supporting equality, and increasing Chico’s product exports.  I’ll work to draft mutually sufficient legislation for efficiently regulating the taxation and safe production of medical marijuana and hemp.

As an elected representative, I’ll continue to promote the long-term health of our community by preserving our parks and greenways; ensuring that all residents are able to access their basic needs.

Together we’ll facilitate interagency support networks and urge social rehabilitation for the mentally ill, houseless, foster youth, nonviolent drug-offenders, and disabled veterans.
